Thanks to you Jill, I still make Elizabeth David's Chocolate and Almond cake that I cut from The Age about 35 yrs ago. You wrote that you had first tasted it in 1981 at Stephanie's Restaurant and you enjoyed it so much that you could eat it for breakfast! So pleased to have found you here, via instagram and look forward to your future newsletters. I agree re looking forward, but it is possible to look back fondly...maybe its part of getting older!! Ps the lamb looks amazing!

A very nostalgic story. I was born in & grew up in Camperdown, it’s neighbouring communities were part of my ‘hood’. Fond memories.👏👏🤗🥂 I went to & later taught at Camperdown High! May the new year be a safe happy environment for us all, & many more inspiring stories & recipes.

I always enjoy your newsletter and this one was special. Thank you! And thank you to you and Terry for returning to Australia to inspire us with your writing, recipes and reviews. In 2006, I was thrilled to see you in a Chinese restaurant in Notting Hill (you were enjoying yum cha), to say 'hello', and tell you to come back to Australia, that you were sorely missed. We were in London to meet our new grandchild and urge our daughter to come home too - which happily, they finally did. Wishing you a Happy New Year and many more lamb roasts to come! Ann Metcalf

An absolutely lovely post Jill. I grew up in Adelaide but made friends with all the boarders in my year. Apart from the fact they were gorgeous, it was wonderful to visit their lovely properties on exeats and holidays. As I read your post, I could smell the cattle, sheep, shearing sheds, paddocks, horses and of course, the lamb roast. Thank you and HYN to you both
