We eat salads 12 months of the year, opting for some roast veggies during the colder months, unfortunately there are many supermarkets deciding to close their delis preferring pre-packaged which are far more expensive. Unfortunately there is nowhere near us that sells NZ salmon, well, that I am aware of, and even to get a decent delicatessen is getting to find. I wonder whether it is because peoples eating habits are changing. One of the best I have come across in recent times was in Tasmania, that being Salamanca Fresh.

Better farming practice, more accountable, and more consistent quality. And correspondingly, more expensive, sigh.

Thankfully I'm making my shopping list when the email hit, so I'm adding salad ingredients! Any recommendations on anchovie and olive brands? I have a few Ortiz anchovies in the fridge, but are there any supermarket brands that are good? Should I get a handful of olives from the deli or a small jar of, say, Always Fresh for the fridge?

I'd utilise the deli section while your supermarket still has one (ours took it out last month). Otherwise Sandhurst do kalamatas in a jar. Ortiz are great, Olasagasti are amazing, but my fave good-value anchovy brand is CUCA (good sardines too), sometimes at food stores and Harris Farm, otherwise it's worth buying online from www.shop.alimentaria.com.au (sorry can't put a link in here). Cheers J

Thank you! Fortunately there is a lovely Italian deli in Roselands Shopping Centre where I buy what I can't at Carriageworks :)
